Do you get distorted/no sound at all when you plug in the headphones to your Samsung Galaxy S4? There could be damage in the headphone jack and you might need to get a flex cable replacement. But before you do that, try using another set of headphones first - it could be that your old one has a defective plug, cable or earbud. Also, make sure debris hasn’t built up inside the audio port as this can prevent a good connection.
Several ways to clean your S4 headphone jack:
- Use a cotton swab to pick up dust and dirt from the jack.
- A strong blast of air can also do the job. We suggest using compressed air.
- Wrapping double-sided tape around the tip of a safety pin also works well. The adhesive on the tape easily picks up lint and other foreign material.
If you still get a poor connection or there’s no audio coming through, it’s time to consider a Galaxy S4 headphone jack replacement. There are DIY replacement kits available, but consider the steps you need to take before you can remove the old headphone jack:
- You need to remove the back cover and battery.
- The front screen is fused to the exterior seam and you need to heat the adhesive so you can pry it away.
- Then you have to disconnect the display assembly to remove the screen completely.
- Next you’ll see two midframes which you have to separate by removing the exterior midframe screws.
- Then you’ll be able to disconnect the headphone jack and cable.
It’s tough, but we will have your audio output back to normal in as little as 15 minutes!
